"Glove" Brand Rubbers, c. 1900 Crate-Side-Cum-Sign with Warm Patina

Regular price $75.00

Too fun to pass this one by, and of course it's hard to resist old signage/graphics incorporating hand iconography, too. It also provided/provides a prompt to delve into the history of rubber and "rubbers" of various sorts- a long and weaving one, but with the invention of both rubber gloves and rubber condoms following on the heels of Charles Goodyear's invention of vulcanized rubber in America 1839 (patented in 1844), following which companies producing a spectrum of rubber products proliferated. Though I've found other examples of the crate this panel came from, I can't find any information about "Glove" Brand Rubbers or figure out the company that produced them--and am not entirely sure if the crate contained rubber surgical gloves (invented in the 1890s), or rubber condoms, or rubber galoshes! Which keeps it spinning in my mind. C. 1900 or so I believe, and it looks to me cut down from a just slightly longer crate side.

20 7/8 x 11 1/4 x 3/8 and in overall good shape, with general surface wear and a few deeper scratches and scuffs, as documented. Nice warm dry patina.
