Things like this jump right into my heart and it is impossible for me not to assume responsibility for ensuring they will live into the future. I believe this tambourine, with hide drum and red painted frame, dates to the early 20th century, at some point along the way becoming the instrument of a Geraldine Wallace, who wrote her name and address inside of a heart on the face, and, more secretly, a G.W. + F.D. on the flip side of the drum. I really like to imagine a young Geraldine shaking and slapping it with great verve as she hoped to attract F.D.'s attention and win his affections forever! Love.
9 1/2” d frame; 10 3/4 with bells; 1 3/4” d. Missing a couple of strings of jangles but overall good condition, all the better for its imperfections, with drum tight and sounding great!
