I don't know much about this large, decorative stoneware plate, which is the smaller of two I purchased at a nearby consignment store, but I think it is fabulous. The hand-painted design--really a drawing on clay--reminds me of car race flags, and I interpret the image as a woman's face in profile. I think the purple, peach, and charcoal palette is pretty terrific too.
The platter measures 11 3/4" in diameter and 1" tall, and is signed Monk on the back. It is in good vintage condition, no chips or cracks, with just a few small dark spots on the front, which may be original to the making. There is a hook on the back for hanging, which is what I would do with it!
