These were all salvaged from the margins of pages in an old school ledger in an overall state of disrepair--little ones, but my very sorts of drawings, completely collapsing the distance between the mind and hand and their maker--just totally alive and of their moment, and now, too. Early 1880s, Haverhill, MA. So many good moments here, starting from the top one, captioned "Fighting for the flag." And that three faced little figure!
Top left drawing (Fighting for flag): 4" l x 1 3/6". Row of cannons: 8" x 1 1/8". All pictured in first photo included. Graphite on ledger paper. All in good condition.
