One of two newly listed groupings of antique Froebel kindergarten paper-cuts today, sold individually. (Plus I've consolidated a few remaining examples from several sets I listed a few months ago into a third set newly listed today.) These I believe were all the work of one very creative, skillful--and devoted!-- kindergarten teacher long ago, all of which I purchased from a dealer friend in Maine, and which I have been getting to listing in batches. (This is pretty much the end of them.).
I've spent a fair bit of time learning about Friedrich Froebel's (German, 1782 - 1852) invention and construction of kindergarten over the past number of years, including looking at a whole lot of examples of paper cutting, weaving, folding, etc. exercises that were part of the Froebel program. And so I can say these represent exceptionally good examples of "Gift 13", paper cutting--with these pieces clearly made using Froebel's proscribed "cutting papers," which were produced in the U.S. by Milton Bradley among others. The learning focus of cut paper works was about the transformation of materials, and the project here was to use all of the pieces from the paper square from which they were cut to create the design; nothing wasted.
10" x 10" each, cut paper mounted to nice weight white card, with examples on both sides of each of these. All in good condition. I've grouped them into sets of four for ease of navigating and ordering, but each one is offered individually (price is per piece.) Photos show a grid of four, front sides then back sides, then individual photos of each piece, labeled with letters. Add one or more to your cart, then indicate in the "notes" field at checkout the letter of the one(s) you want.
