This miniature playpen has a kinship with those iconic Schoenhut circus chairs and pedestals I like so much--quite similar in form and sensibility, and with a pretty circus-y feel to the colorfully painted beads on wire at either side pen (a hard-shelled papier mache I think.) And so, as good a stage/platform for a lion or tiger as for a baby, I'd say--but also sort of a cheerful minimalist piece of sculpture just as it is, too. With a cool sort of a marble patterned printed paper lining the floor, and stamped Germany on the underside.
4 13/16" x 4 13/16" x 3" t and in very good condition, with general light wear to the paint. Earlyish 20th c. I believe.
