This carved stone head distills much of what I love about Inuit art--through a spareness of means this face manages to feel resolute as well as vulnerable, wise but also curious, specific and open-ended, and altogether very human. To my senses very powerful and very beautiful. No more words than that.
3 7/8" x 3 5/8" x 1 7/8" d. Beautiful vintage condition, with irregularities indigenous to the stone. Artist unknown, likely 1970s or so. Disc number incised on underside.
