I had a previous sketchbook of six drawings of boxers by this unknown amateur artist, which sold out quickly, so I went back to the source and purchased the other set of them he had. I really love the honesty and directness of these, and all of the air around the boxers, such that they just sort of float in space. As such it is all about their expressions, gestures and the tension between them, amplified by the color and attention paid to their gloves, shorts and boots. I find them about as pure and poignant as it gets; super intimate and human.
The text on the shorts of the the boxer at right in this one is enough to figure out that he is (Marvelous) Marvin Hagler, who competed from 1973 to 1987, but I am not sure about the other boxer. Paper size is 12" x 18". Very good condition. Blank back. C. 1980s I would think. Shipped flat.
