19th C. Double-Sided Naive Graphite & Crayon Drawing: Giant Baby Boy, Flowers

Regular price $48.00

This is one of a handful of drawings I'm listing by the same (surely quite young) maker, found together in an old notebook already partially disassembled so I went ahead and separated them all. I'd guess 1870s or so, and all quite wonderful, this otherworldly baby boy on blue blanket, seemingly a giant in relation to the tree beside him, perhaps my favorite of all. (And reminding me a bit of the phenomenal "electric pencil" drawings of James Edward Deeds.) Crayon was used fairly sparingly in these, giving the blue of the blanket an extra charge, with fringe to boot. Plus great little hands and feet, and two bouquets of flowers on reverse.

7 3/4" x 5 1/4" and in very good condition, with minor smudges/stains.
