I saw one of these in an instagram post recently and was totally smitten--what could be better than this marvelous icicle font and border, and then how perfect to apply to a jar of cold cream? I then happened to find this one in Maine the other day. C. 1880s British, and made of ironstone with transfer graphic. Packaging perfection if I ever saw it!
3" in diameter x 1 11/16" tall. Some staining and crazing on the lid as evident, and to the body of the jar as well as some glaze chips, and it seems perhaps a mismatch between lid and jar, as the lid is just a hair tight for it. They look to be a match in terms of age though, and the lid sits atop the jar fine, the first is just not exactly perfect. Very fabulous nonetheless.
