All Original 1860s Scholz and Janetzky American Travel Watercolor Set

Regular price $155.00

You can tell I am enamored with early watercolor sets, American ones especially, and this seems to be a rare one, distributed by Scholz and Janetzky, Philadelphia, featuring paints produced by George Osbourne, the leading maker of American watercolors at the time, also of Philadelphia. Founded in 1856 by Julius Scholz and Charles Janentzky, by 1876 the company had changed their name to Janentzky & Co, so these date to the 1860s or so, an early American set. With Native American Chiefs embossed on one side of the paint blocks, and the name of the color on the other--all corresponding to the color labels printed on the box. With three pretty white porcelain mixing pots rimmed in blue.

5 3/4" x 3 1/2" x 5/8".  Paint blocks each approx 3/4" l. Some use to some of the paints, but all near to entirely complete. Very nice condition.
