At first I though this boy had his hand inside the mouth of this dog, but a closer look reveals that his arm is just crossed right there, creating an illusion. Loads of character to both of them--and to the yard, fence and structure behind them too!--making me want to know everything about this young Thurston Creston Caton of Steelton, PA -- who I have learned lived 1902–1962, and seems to have had 16 brother and sisters!
3 3/8" x 2 3/8". C. early 1910s. Good antique condition, with general wear and a small clean tear coming in from the left edge 3/4 of the way down.
