Scarce 1897 Hood's Spelling School Game, Complete, with Extensive Rules Booklet-- and Sarsaparilla Advertising!

Regular price $48.00

This is a scarce one--like Anagrams, but with bright yellow letters, the backs of them printed with Hood's Sarsaparilla, a root beer like drink promoted as a health tonic with far-ranging benefits. Those benefits are details in the printed booklet, which, far more usefully, includes many pages of details for different and increasingly sophisticated games to be played with these letters--and which, I do believe, make a compelling argument for them as really the only game one would ever need. And so good for the brain, who needs Sarsaparilla?! Produced in Lowell, MA, 1897.

Box measures 4 3/4" x 4 1/4" x 1". Loss of two short sides of the box lid but letters and booklet in excellent shape and the rest of the box is holding together well.
