Photos really don't do justice to this one; the colors are richer in person, and the painting--icon, really--has a strong presence and patina and sense of objecthood. I believe it is Mexican, early 20th century, though the wood panel it was painted on feels older than that. To me it feels Mexican folk art meets German Expressionism, with its boldness and graphicness making it feel akin to a woodblock print, and making the martyrdom of this Jesus feel especially immediate and visceral. Beautiful.
5 5/8" x 4". Very good condition, with minor paint loss/surface wear and one small hole along the left edge of the wood panel--all to the good I think.
