Chubby Children, Best Faces, Naive 19th Century Graphite and Watercolor Drawing in Gold Gessoed Frame

Regular price $160.00

This one made me laugh out loud first, but really I think it is quite wonderful, and wonderfully done. I believe it is a boy at left in blue skirt and marvelously striped socks, and likely his sister beside him in pink dress. Terrific details everywhere, from the cross around her neck and lace collar, cuffs and hem, to the pocket on his shirt and plaid bow tie. But best of all their wide, chubby looking faces, his (again, I believe) reminding me of drawings by Shields Landon Jones! 19th century, graphite and watercolor, on lined paper.

Framed as found: 5 15/16 x 5 7/16” t; drawing 3 1/8 x 3 3/4”. All in good condition, with one small loss to left bottom inside edge of gold painted gessoed wooden frame, minor and stable. Newer backing board and hook for hanging.
