The stunner of a vessel pictured here is a c. 1400 BC Minoan tomb jug from Katsambas, the harbour of Knossos, which is held in the collection of the Archeological Museum in Heraklion. I'd sure love to live with the the real thing, but I must say this striking vintage photograph does a lovely job of making it feel close at hand. Signed on the back in Greek, I believe; I presume the name of the photographer. Beautifully captured texture and detail, rich tonalities, lush black ground.
15 3/4" x 11 3/4" and in very good condition, matte finish photo paper with just a slight curl (just needs to be flattened/matted/framed), and a couple of tiny marks to the perimeter edge as documented. Mid 20th c. or earlier, I believe.
