I love an old photo of a house that feels very much like a specific portrait, all the better when that photograph has itself accrued a patina that seems to further enhance the innate character of the place. And, in this case, I especially love the young tree growing just beside what I take for the front door, as if forever trapping the inhabitants inside--or keeping others out!--a sort of gate inside the gate. And with a nice stretch of white painted fence too.
