This charmer of a handmade ping pong paddle came with a note attached: "JJH was my great-uncle, b. 1870 d. 1912, and this was handmade by him." Sadly, JJH did not live long enough to play ping pong into his old age, but one imagines that he must have been pretty serious about it in his youth or middle age to invest so much love and labor into his paddle! With inlaid wood for the very excellent monogram and two rings of dashes encircling it, seeming to evoke the skimming of the ball across the surface of a table at high speed!
11 1/2" x 6 1/8" x 7/8". One very well done glued repair to a clean split--noticeable only upon close inspection, I think perhaps done early in its life; detailed in later photos.
