How could I possibly resist? The dealer I purchased this from told me that when she purchased it many years ago there were remnants of an old wire connecting the pig to plough; but really, what a burden for this sweet pig, I think better he's been liberated! It also seems that perhaps theirs was an old "make do" marriage--the pig is quite old, but the plough seems ancient! Happily the pig balances well on its nail legs standing atop the plough now, a nice resolution I think. With a terrific shape and patina to both of them, and oh those old iron-nailed leather ears!
Plough: 9 3/8" l x 1 7/8" t x 1 1/4" w. Pig: 3 3/4" l x 1 3/4" t. Splits to the carved body of the pig on both sides, as documented, which to me just makes him all the more empathetic. Stable and not fragile.
