Pure love for this box, one of those things that just had to be mine, and which I'll be glad to live with for the rest of my life. And I like it all the more for its humble exterior which does little suggest the rich joys of its interior life! Likely painted when Henrietta was just a school girl, proudly spelling out her full name in block letters between rainbow-like arcs of color (and what an excellent name, seeming also to describe her efforts here as Henrietta's work!), with wonderfully expressive flowers below, including many different sorts of blooms sharing one stalk at the left, and then this flurry of rose buds to the right, with one big bloom seeming about to topple its stem. All set against the perfect mustard ground. Plus a painted tray in glorious blue and red that sits at top and lifts out to reveal pure red below. To my eye a completely glorious thing.
7 5/8" l x 4 9/16" d x 3 15/16" t. Very good condition, no issues, with the color of the painting as great as could be. The exterior is in good shape, lacquered, with what looks to me like dark grain painting underneath. Structurally sound and sturdy, hinges in good shape, lid closes flush.
