A very tender real photo postcard, postmarked 1907-- which for me is all about the interplay of the photo and the handwritten text. "Hello Grandma, I thought I would sent [sic] you a postal to let you know I am still alive. This is my parner [sic] and my picture's were [sic] I work. Good bye. J.L.O. Answer." And so young these two boys look, working at making chairs it appears, each one with a hand on the the back of his particular chair with what feels like pride. The photo itself is far from crystal clear, but feels just right to me, seeming perfectly in keeping with a message letting family know that one is "still alive" and providing some evidence that is so! Also feels right that the very beginning of a life away from home should be a bit blurry.
5 7/16" x 3 7/16". Postmarked 1907, and mailed to Mrs. John Arnold of Kutztown, PA. A few black postmark stains on the photo, but this one is all about aura.
