The first thing I found on a quick trip to Pennsylvania this past week, and one of my favorites--not your average tramp art box, and, actually, two boxes, with the top tier its own self contained box, which sits atop the unlidded pedestal box below (which itself can be flipped on its head, pedestal end up, to allow for a different configuration.) With a unique combination of decorative chipped carved elements on each side, a heart marking the opening edge of the top, and the happy surprise of a bevy of handsome "champions" on the underside of the hinged lid! (Which dates it to about 1889 I believe, and apparently its quite a rate label.) All constructed of cigar box wood, and of course I loved finding the word "Ultimatum" papered to perimeter of the bottom when I flipped it upside down. Unusual, invested with lots of love and care, and full of character.
Overall: 8 5/8" t x 9 11/16" w x 6 3/4" d. A few losses here and there, as thoroughly documented (one rectangle on one short side, the top third of a top layer circle on the back side, the top layer or two of one diamond on other short side) and a little bit of bowing to the lid. *In one image of one short side, I did not have the top box set squarely on the lower one, making it look crooked.) Losses on tramp boxes sometimes bother me, but in this case, with so much character and so many different elements, I really don't think they notably detract. Stable and stands square and very proudly!
