Unusual Folk Art (Real) Star Fish Basket!

Regular price $80.00

A curious one, which I purchased from a dealer in Nashville named Kitty Saylor, my favorite name ever and just right I think for someone offering up a starfish basket! It is a real--and large--starfish that forms the basket here, its underbelly (basket interior) painted a now mellow gold, and its exterior coated in a dark brown stain/varnish. The handle is wood, with what appears to be a vine wrapping it tightly, all stained and varnished too, and with what to be a couple of organic growths (seeds or pods of some sort) dangling from the sides. With a round wooden base, such that it sits flat. The perfect thing to fill with a collection of favorite little shells and or other treasures from the sea I'd say!

10 1/8” x 11” across one way then the other tip to tip; 6 1/2” t. Good condition, sturdy, with just a couple of tiny losses to the coating on the starfish showing white, as documented.
