Total joy finding this painting in a random spot in MA this week—with this tiny couple in the distance, framed by trees draped just like like curtains framing a window, looking as if they’re either walking on water or floating in the sky. And then taking it out of the frame to clean the glass, I discovered it dated 1976 (I found it on the day of President Carter’s funeral, who was inaugurated in 1976) and with this note on reverse: "With god help I begun to paint at 85. Now 87” —which makes this feel all the more like a singular vision! Our 87 year old artist signed it on the front at lower right corner, a bit hard to read, but looks like “Ma” followed by R.B. Aoult or similar. To my eye, a complete charmer and rather transcendent.
12 3/4" x 9 3/4" framed, as found. Paper 12" x 9". All in very good condition, with several photos showing it examined out of the frame.
