Sensitive Ink and Crayon Portrait by Jon Kodwyck, Newburyport MA, 1972

Regular price $55.00

For the same Rockport, MA estate of an artist and longtime collector as lots of things I've been listing of late, this is a 1972 pen and crayon drawing by Jon Serge Kodwyck (1917-2006) of Newburyport, MA. Kodwyck was well known regionally (with some auction records out there) for emotive, expressionistic studies, especially of women. (He was also an avid striped bass fisherman, holding a world record for hooking and reeling in the largest striped bass, 57 lbs. 1 oz., on the lightest line!). I think it's a wonderfully sensitive, effortless seeming portrait of a very androgynous looking subject, feeling as much about essence as about appearance.

Framed as found, 10 1/8" x 9 1/8". Sight: 6 1/2" x 5 1/2".  Overall good condition, with what appears to be a bit of stain/soiling at lower left corner, minor.
