This is a wonderful, finely made Coushatta basket of pine needles and raffia, probably late 20th century. The Coushatta are a matrilineal society native to Southwest Louisiana and are renowned for their wonderful baskets made of coiled pine needles. This is an especially nice example, with the raffia coiling around the edge of the lid and woven detail at the very top.
4 1/2" diameter and 4 1/4" tall with lid and in excellent condition.
