My love for these turned and painted wooden apple boxes will never die, and this is really a nice one. These were made in Japan for the Western market, beginning in the late 19th c. I believe, and often housed miniature tea sets or roulette style games and the like--this one just the spinner for a horse racing game, chips and ball long gone (but it's cool how that spinner mounts perfectly on the interior spike of the apple's stem ). A fairly large and beautiful example, in nicely applied combination of yellow and red paint, different all the way around. A terrific gift for the apple of one's eye--or one's favorite teacher!
4" t x 3 1/2" in diameter. Excellent condition.
