While the season for fanning my be over, I’d hang these vintage Japanese fans on the wall immediately to enjoy them as the gorgeous objects that they are all winter long—and to be reminded that summer will come again! These sorts of rigid paddle-shaped fans are called Uchiwa in Japanese; these are made of paper and bamboo, and I presume date from the 1950s or so. With their elegant graphics and terrific color palettes, they are really inspiring me add vintage Japanese fans to my ongoing collecting obsessions; I want to see a whole wall of them!
