Things like this really move me, and I feel immediate responsibility toward them. And in this case, as it happens, the antiques shop where I purchased these tragically went up in flames a few weeks later. It's the box here that does it for me, constructed of old cigar box wood scraps, and especially the lid, with DOMINOES carved into it, and the outline of a domino at either end. And of course the fact that it barely holding together at this point makes me love it all the more. With a cigar label on the underside of the lid, and a scrap of cardboard forming one short side. Plus a much smaller than the rest substitute domino to complete the set of 28. Someone sure loved their dominoes.
7 7/8" x 2 1/2" x 2" t. One short side lost on the box and the carved slide lid just sits on top. Really I'd just treat this as a special sort of found object, the existence of which brings joy, and just find a special spot to enjoy it as such.
