This carving came from an old estate in Damariscotta, Maine, and it is definitely quite an old one. I can't say for certain that it is a Native American carving, but based on the face, I might think so. In any event, as opposed to many "wood spirit" carvings--faces carved into branches with the bark on them--which are pretty kitschy, the relative simplicity and stoicism makes this one really great I think, and with quite a proud presence that far exceeds its size.
4 1/4" t x 1 1/4" w x 1 3/8" d and in very good condition. It stands sturdy on its own.
