I love an old pencil box, especially one with lots of room in it for pencils and whatever else one might want to pack into it! And I love one that clearly did its job over many many years! Pretty carved detailing around the perimeter of the tight fitting slide lid on this one, and then two trays inside held together with a screw, such that the top one swivels out and all the way around. Plus a wonderfully worn indent for pulling opening.
9 3/8" l x 2" w x 1 1/2" t closed. The slide lid is quite tight, and (especially in this humidity) can take a bit more than a thumb to slide it open, but open it will. C. late 19th century.
