These geometrically patterned candleholders, c.mid 1960s, are a great example of the work of Marianne Suda, a ceramic artist born in Vienna, Austria in 1928, who Immigrated to Canada in 1954 and was based in Quebec. Suda was strongly influenced by both Danish Modern pottery and native Canadian art--influences which I think wonderfully merge in these earthy and strikingly graphic hand-formed candleholders. They are made of dark brown clay with cream, light blue and caramel glazes.
Excellent condition. Each candleholder is stamped “SUDA” on the underside edge.
