I can't resist a forget-me-not that's endured some 150 years, and even more so one as lovely as this box. With theorem-style stencil painted velvet top reading "token of friendship", embossed silver foil trim around perimeter and sides, and original mirror inside. I'm not entirely sure what it once would have held that fit into that round niche--perhaps a pot of rouge?--but could hold various sorts of trinkets or mementos now, or deliver a chocolate easter egg! And a pretty paper lace border around the beautifully aged, now perfectly distressed but still reflective mirror. Rare to find and lovely.
5" x 3 1/2" x 2" and in good antique condition. Mid 19th century.
