A very handsome dome-top box--a 19th tea caddy with perfectly understated inlay at the keyhole and just below. I'm not a connoisseur of tea caddies, but this one, found in upstate NY near Albany, just struck me as a very elegant and lovely thing. With what I believe is birds eye maple lining the underside of the domed lid, two interior chambers, and lovely details. No key, but the lock is disarmed.
8" w x 4 3/4" d x 4 1/8" t and in excellent antique condition. One natural imperfection to the wood on one short side, showing like a vertical stripe. Hinges well attached, lid closes flush, wood in beautiful condition.
