SOLD Marvelous Large Antique Painted Wood Bottom Basket

Regular price $350.00

Oh, this basket. It is only of fairly late that I have really started paying attention to antique painted baskets, and really coveting some of the beautiful examples out there, which others clearly highly value, too!  I found this one at an antique show in Lititz, PA, though I understand from the dealer that she found it in Missouri, years ago, and has had it in her personal collection since--and honestly, I think it's just about the most beautiful painted basket I've ever seen. Flat wooden bottom, woven splint sides, and these gorgeously arching and overlapping stakes, feeling a bit as if nodding to Victorian wirework baskets. With a beautifully patinated old white painted surface, and this exquisite punctuation of old iron nails running all the way around the bottom rim and again along the perimeter of the underside.  To my eye really a stunner, which would be incredible filled with stone fruit, or hedge apples, or anything, or nothing!

13 5/8" widest diameter x 6 1/4" tall. Very good antique condition, sturdy and sound, A bit of splitting to the arches of a couple of stakes, as pictured, minor.
