This charming papier-mâché sculpture of Asian girl and lion-dog I believe is mid-century Japanese. The hand-painted details are really wonderful, from the pink cheeks and detailed bib of the little girl to, especially, the mane and ears of her lion-dog companion, a mythological creature considered a guardian figure in Japanese culture and a popular subject in Japanese papier-mâché.
