This is a striking, large (and heavy!), beautifully crafted hand-thrown studio pottery platter decorated with a hand-painted design in blue, grey and brown glazes over a cream slip. The wonderfully gestural surface decoration evinces a vertical sequence of blooms, or perhaps even birds, each one emerging from the one below it, giving the piece a great dynamism. This would be fantastic used as a huge serving platter for tapas or antipasti, but also stunning just for display.
The platter is signed on the bottom in glaze, with what appears to be “MM” “’78” and VT, presumably for Vermont. It measures 16” in diameter and 1 7/8” tall.
