Suspended Gesture, In Between, Old Snapshot Photo of Woman in Swim Costume

Regular price $15.00

A friend, who is also a choreographer, recently commented on how a snapshot I had listed reminded her of the work of Meredith Monk, which made me aware of how often I am attracted to photographs that feel like dance stills. Like this one. And the beauty of a photograph is that it suspends a moment, a gesture, forever. I love the awkwardness here, leg raised and arms extended for balance but also a bit like flapping wings. This woman's posture also makes me think of the game "mother may I", as if she were about to take a giant step forward but has caught herself, realizing she hadn't asked permission, and just shifted her weight. Pretty poignant to me.

3 11/16" x 2 11/16, good condition.
