This beautifully proportioned box I found filled with vintage matchbooks and a few newspaper clippings. Because it is copper and features one smaller and one larger compartment inside, I assume it was made to hold cigarettes on one side and matches on the other, and would guess it dates to the 1930s or 40s. With its handy loop handle on the lid, it would make a great tea caddy as well. I love its staight-foward elegance and wonderful patina, and might be inclined to place it in the bathroom holding bandaids, tweezers and the like, so that I'd see it morning and night.
3 1/2" tall x 3 1/2" wide x 2 1/2" deep and in very good vintage condition, with aging visible on the interior as documented.
