These are really lovely, reminding me of old hand-pieced oil cloth toy balls, which I love, but better for being cubes with a different color on each side and together composing a complete alphabet, with some animals to boot. What I especially like is the creative challenge of putting them to use spelling out words, with the choice of each letter limiting the rest of one's options, such that it becomes a real problem solving exercise. Good for the brains of adults and children alike. Plus, there are rattles/bells inside two of them, dinging as one tosses them around.
2 3/8” cubed, set of 5. All in good condition, some surface wear to the oil cloth here and there, seams holding tight. I'd guess 1920s-30s.
