It's the crudeness of this silhouette that makes me really love it, and find it--her!--very empathetic; no trained traveling silhouette artist or use of a tracing mechanism behind this one, just a homespun effort to render a likeness to best one could I think, and managing to impart her with a lot of character in the process. I opened it up for a closer look, and have documented it as such--the silhouette cut from card, with black fabric (looks like a thin velvet to me) placed behind, placed behind glass in this wonderful hand-carved frame with wooden backing. All original to it I believe, earlyish 19th c., with a wonderful dry patina to the frame. Very charming
6" x 4 1/4" x 5/8" and all in very good antique condition.
