I have had no luck finding anything like this tabletop top bird sculpture anywhere out there, and believe that it is truly one of a kind. I think it is fantastic--reminding me of a pre-historic sort of a bird, given a brutalist sort of a treatment. I would guess it dates to the 1960s or early 70s, and it is made in three parts that fit together via pegs extending from each section (the head sticks into the body; the body onto the base.) I especially love that the beak opens and closes; when open, it feels rather as if this creature is emitting a primordial scream. A really interesting, dramatic piece, which can be positioned in any number of ways and is different from every angle.
7 3/4" tall x 5 1/2" wide x 3" deep and in excellent vintage condition. I purchased this piece from a very fine consignment/antiques shop just outside of Boston, which is invariably full of fine and unusual things.
