I've found a couple similar to this mechanical boxing toy over the years, made I believe by the Weston Toy Company, Weston, CT, which operated from 1859 to 1899. The others featured two boxers going at each other, but this is the first I've seen with just one and a punching bag opposite him instead. The push button at the center of this one is missing--someone handier than I could surely fashion a new one, and the rest of the mechanism is still in good working order--but I don't mind him a bit just standing in place, gazing at the bag hanging before him as if just getting his will up! He's lost one set of toes too, as if having endured one too many fights, so maybe best just to let him rest!
4 13/16" x 1 1/16 x 3 3/4" t. Missing button and missing toes on one foot as evident, but graphically wonderful and any sort of pin can be stuck into the hole at center to make him swing.
