I found this one in Western MA, probably not far form where it was painted I believe about 100 years ago on a school slate well older that that, with initials carved into the wood on one side. What struck me especially was the palette and gesturally painted passages of near abstraction, unusual in my experience for a folk painting on slate, and immediately making me think of Thomas Hart Benton. Also feels kind of Adirondack-y.
12 3/4 x 8 3/4 and in good, as found condition, with the painted frame of the slate itself now a mellow gold. Wired on he back for hanging.
