I really love these old painter's boxes, especially those still holding their original palettes, and will always scoop them up when I find them. C. 1870s, clearly well used, with all of its original components (less the paints and pots and brushes that would have been acquired to fill it.) The lid of the rear section pulls up to reveal grooves for tubes of paint or charcoals/pastels, and the front section's top tray (meant for holding brushes) lifts out to reveal compartments below. With painterly globs of old paint still on both sides of the palette, which is held to the lid at the left corners and a tension operated pull at left. Well used, but with lots more left in it, or just inspiring to look at:) With a front clasp at front that could accommodate a small lock or tie.
13" x 9 1/4 x 3 3/8" t. Well used, with loss to most of the black paint on the exterior, which I like; some rusting and scattered paint loss to the interior.
