Though much of the paint on his face has been lost to time, I find this antique santos very beautiful, including for the glorious blue and gold paint still covering his cloak, and for his little bare feet poking out below it! And while its hard to sense from photos, the carved modeling of his face makes it such that one really doesn't miss the paint, or at least I don't. At some point a peg/post was added to the base of the figure that fits squarely into a hole in the pedestal--impossible to know if the base original to him, but its of equivalent age, beautiful itself, and suits him well--and he can be turned to face either direction as she stands atop it. I'd guess 18th c. continental European and think perhaps St. Francis but am not entirely certain.
Overall: 9 1/4" t x 3 1/2" w (base) x 3 1/8" d (base.) Figure itself 6 5/8" t not including peg. Loss to arms long ago, paint loss and general wear as evident. Structural sound and not fragile.
