This charming Japanese dragon-shaped cast iron or lead flower / ikebana frog I believe dates from the 1930s. While certainly a functional base for a dramatic floral arrangement, it's also just a wonderfully unusual and curious object. I found it at a terrific estate sale in Concord, MA, which included everything from shaker furniture to antique tools to mid-century modern art and ceramics.
