This is a late 19th century enamel painted French cast iron spittoon, marked Godin & Cie A Guise Aisne No. 11 on the underside. I wouldn't expect to fall in love with an old spittoon, but the combination of form and color on this thing really does it for me. And, turn it over and wear it as a crown! It would make a pretty fabulous dog bowl for a very special dog, now, but also a very beautiful centerpiece filled, say, with an arrangement of old stone fruit. The rich custard colored enameled surface also really sets off the color in everything else. Yum.
9 1/4 d x 2 5/16” t and in good condition, to my eye very beautifully aged, with some paint loss at the center of the bowl and along the edges, all to the good in my opinion. Heavy and substantial.
