Great Old Confetti Mat on Unusual Crocheted Structure

For me it's as much about the back as the front on this old "confetti" shag table mat--I'm not a connoisseur, but I've not seen one constructed like this before, with the colorful strips of fabric, mostly silk it appears, pulled through a knit/crocheted structure. Very lovely, and making it especially good for hanging, which is what I would do (I'd just stitch a loop of thread to either corner and hang directly on the wall from two pins or small nails like a painting--which is just what it feels like. 

11" x 10 1/2" and in very good condition, I'd guess with 100 years on it or close to it.
