So fun. I found this one at an antique show in Pennsylvania and was sold on it just by the cover alone! 28 pages of "animal analogues" by Robert Williams Wood, visually equating Puss and Octopus, Ant and Pheasant, Cow and Cowry, Doe and Dodo, Antelope and Cantelope, etc. through charming illustrations, and weaving them together in verse. Delight for kids and adults, alike! Apparently this book came out of the early 20th-century American "nature fakers" literary debate highlighting the conflict between science and sentiment in popular nature writing. A fairly scarce copy.
7 3/4" x 6", 28 pages plus endpapers, cloth wrapped board covers. Published by Paul Elder and Company. San Francisco and New York. Wear to the spine, general cover wear, and general toning to the paper, all as documented. Binding holding together fine.
